Millstream Farm has a number of graduates representing the Robertson stud on Hollywoodbets Durban July day, including Magical Zulu Kingdom 2200 contenders La Pulga and Johnny The Thief.
The farm will present another well-bred and imposing draft at Thursday’s Bloodstock South Africa KwaZulu-Natal Yearling Sale, with breeder Jan Mantel in attendance after his yearlings arrived at the Suncoast complex on Sunday.
Mantel’s personal favourite among the consignment is Lot 172, the half-sister to Johnny The Thief.
“She’s a beautiful, strong daughter of United States out of Black Banca (Tale Of The Cat), a mare who has already produced five winners from six runners,” he said.
The first Millstream yearling comes up just a few minutes after the 10am start as Lot 2 and she’s one you don’t want to miss – a filly by Erupt out of the four-time winner Emerald Crest, by Gimmethegreenlight.
“I did the mating mainly on conformation and the result was a really good-looking filly. The female line has stamina, but she is nice and racy and could come early,” said Mantel.
Next, Lot 52, one of two Danon Platina progeny in the Millstream stables, and both are athletic and good-looking. This one is named ‘I’m Spoken For’ and she’s out of the multiple Listed winner Madame Speaker (Pathfork), who has had two winners from three runners thus far. “She’s very racy and moves nicely,” Mantel said.
Lot 121 is Myboysirus, by Rafeef out of a Gimmethegreenlight mare, and he’s a colt with plenty of scope. “His dam, Super Siri, was graded-placed. He’s been with us for six months and he’s come along well. He has some way to go, but will develop into a lovely type.”
Mr Mercedes (Lot 137) is a colt by Rafeef out of Tzaritza (Snitzel), who is a half-sister to Cape Met winner and Equus Middle Distance Champion, Whisky Baron. “He is a super specimen,” Mantel said.
Danon Platina’s colt out of Captain’s Corner (Lot 172) is true equine eye candy. “We repeated the mating because her sister Captain’s Lass was also a good-looking foal. She has gone on to show plenty of promise on the track and will win soon.”
